Drei Tage lang wurde im Hamburger Thalia-Theater verhandelt, angeklagt, verteidigt und geurteilt. Titel der Veranstaltung: **„Prozess gegen Deutschland“**.

Der Anspruch: ein offenes demokratisches Experiment. Das Ergebnis: ein moralischer Schuldspruch – weniger über den deutschen Rechtsstaat als über eine bestimmte Vorstellung davon, **wie Deutschland heute noch sein darf**.

Dieser Artikel will zweierlei leisten: Erstens die Veranstaltung **sachlich und vollständig vorstellen** – Dramaturgie, Akteure, Kernpositionen. Zweitens eine **klare liberale Einordnung** vornehmen, jenseits linker Selbstvergewisserung und jenseits rechter Abwehrreflexe.

Es war schon spät im **Thalia Theater**, die Reihen gut gefüllt, die Stimmung seltsam aufgeladen. Eigentlich sollte an diesem Abend nüchtern darüber diskutiert werden, ob ein Parteiverbot der AfD demokratisch geboten sei. Tatsächlich aber lag von Beginn an etwas anderes in der Luft: eine selbstzufriedene Gewissheit vieler Anwesender, moralisch längst auf der richtigen Seite zu stehen. In diese Atmosphäre hinein trat **Harald Martenstein** ans Rednerpult – als letzter Redner des Abends, sichtbar müde, aber geistig hellwach. Was folgte, war keine Provokation, sondern eine freiheitlich-liberale Zumutung. Und genau darin lag ihre Sprengkraft.
