#  Edward Snowden

**Edward Joseph Snowden** (born June 21, 1983) is an American [whistleblower](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistleblower "Whistleblower") who copied and leaked [highly classified information](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classified_information_in_the_United_States "Classified information in the United States") from the [National Security Agency](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Security_Agency "National Security Agency") (NSA) in 2013 when he was a [Central Intelligence Agency](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Intelligence_Agency "Central Intelligence Agency") (CIA) employee and subcontractor.
